Canisius swimming and diving faced Youngstown, Cleveland State and Malone University as they competed in the triple-duo event Friday night at Youngstown. The Canisius women finished 170-35 over Malone while dropping races against Cleveland State and Youngstown in a 58-182 loss to Cleveland and a 67-172 loss under Youngstown. The Canisius men wrapped up the meet with similar results, finishing 158-46 over Malone and 68-157 under Youngstown.
Sophomore Erica Vitale raced to two second-place finishes in the meet, earning four points for the Griffs in both the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 200 IM. She earned a time of 11:02.80 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and finished the 200 IM in 2:16.85. Vitale also took third place in the 200-yard butterfly, racing through the event in 2:16.80.
Sophomore Steven Pochatko took top honors in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:00.96, as well as leading the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay event. Pochatko combined efforts with freshman Matt Moessinger, freshman Mike Disco and senior Randall Snodgrass to race to a 3:18.62 final time.
The Golden Griffins will return to the water Friday, Nov. 20 as they meet Binghamton on the road. Meet time is set for 5:00 p.m.
