CANISIUS VS. RHODE ISLAND

  • Canisius and Rhode Island are meeting for the second consecutive season and third time overall. The Golden Griffins have won both games, including a 70-63 victory at the Koessler Athletic Center on Jan. 2, 2008.
  • Monday's matchup is the first between the teams in Kingston, R.I.
  • Canisius is playing a team from the Atlantic 10 conference for third time this season, losing to St. Bonaventure and defeating Saint Louis.
  • Monday's game is the first in the state of Rhode Island for Canisius since Dec. 3, 2000, when the Golden Griffins took second place in the Providence Bank Classic.


RHODE ISLAND SCOUT

  • Rhode Island enters Monday's game with a 5-5 record after a 62-50 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The Rams have won two straight.
  • Megan Shoniker leads the team at 11.2 points per game. The 5-foot-9 sophomore guard is shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc. Shoniker is the only Rhode Island player to make more than five 3-pointers this season as Shoniker has made 14.
  • Senior Sierra Cooper leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per game and is second on the squad with 10.4 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor (45-for-90).
  • In the 14-team Atlantic 10, Rhode Island ranks 13th i scoring offense, 11th in scoring defense, eighth in field goal percentage, 14th in field goal percentage defense, 14th in 3-point field goal percentage, 10th in rebounding margin and fourth in turnover margin.
  • Tom Garrick is in his sixth season at his alma mater as the head coach of the women's team. Garrick served as an assistant for both the women's teams and men's teams previously. Garrick scored 1,573 points in his career at URI.
