One of the most honored players in Canisius College women's basketball history, J?nel Stevens enters her second season on the bench for the Blue and Gold. Stevens is responsible for opponent scouting, film exchange, team travel and academic assistance to members of the team. Stevens is also responsible for program's summer girls' basketball camp, which is held in the Koessler Athletic Center.
Stevens became the first Canisius women's player to be named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Co-Defensive Player of the Year after helping lead the Golden Griffins to a 19-11 mark in 2003-04 and the team's first appearance in the MAAC Championship game. She closed out her career with 1,590 points and 874 rebounds, which ranks fourth all-time in career scoring and third in career rebounding.
She became the first player in program history to score over 1,500 career points and pull down 800-plus career rebounds while also collecting 200-plus assists, 200-plus steals and 60-plus blocks. A three-time MAAC All-Academic selection, Stevens became the first women's player in school to be named MAAC Preseason Player of the Year prior to the 2003-04 season by the league's coaches.
Stevens received her degree in business management in May 2004, and earned her master's degree in sport administration at Canisius in May 2005.
