The Griffs, who are unbeaten in their last five games, host Connecticut for two games at the Amherst Pepsi Center. Canisius enters the weekend with a record of 5-10-5 and 4-6-4 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Huskies are 5-12-1 and 4-7-1 against league competition.

    LOEWEN WINS GOALIE OF THE WEEK FOR THIRD TIME
  • Sophomore Andrew Loewen (pictured) led the Griffs to three points against Bentley and was named the Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season.
  • Loewen stopped 69-of-71 shots during the two-game series for a goals against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of .972.
  • Loewen first earned the honors on Nov. 10 after stopping 28-of-30 shots at Holy Cross, including 11 saves in the final period, to help lead the Griffs to a 4-2 victory.
  • Loewen then earned the weekly accolades for a second time for his performance at Atlantic Hockey-leading Air Force. The sophomore recorded 72 saves in the series to lead the Griffs to two draws. He made a season-best 40 saves in the finale, including all 20 shots he faced in the third period and three in overtime. In total, he stopped the last 29 shots on goal.
  • The sophomore was also named the New England Hockey Journal Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week following the Air Force and Bentley series.
  • On November 30, Loewen recorded 34 saves, including 17 in the third period, to record his first collegiate shutout in a 4-0 victory against Mercyhurst.
  • For the season, Loewen is 4-6-4 and has recorded a goals against average of 2.96 and a save percentage of .911.
  • During his last seven games, Loewen has made 34.7 saves per game and has posted a goals against average of 2.08 and a save percentage of .942. During the stretch, Loewen has led the Griffs to a 3-1-3 record.

    HOME COOKIN'
  • The good news is the Griffs have played their best at home. The bad news is that they have only had five home contests.
  • Canisius is unbeaten at home (4-0-1) and has outscored opponents by 2.4 goals a game.
  • The Griffs are unbeaten in its first five games at home for the first time since the 1995-96 season.
  • However, the Griffs are 1-10-4 away from Buffalo and the team has been outscored by two goals a game.
  • Canisius played 15 of its first 17 games on the road to open the 2007-08 campaign.
  • The Griffs are one of only five teams to play five or fewer games at home this season. Brown (three home games), Cornell (five), Dartmouth (five) and Wayne State (five) are the other four.
  • There is more good news as Canisius has only two more road trips this season. The Griffs have 10 more home games and only five more road games.

    PENALTY KILL IMPROVING
  • The Griffs' penalty kill unit has shown improvement since allowing five power-play goals against Miami.
  • Canisius has allowed only one extra-man goal (on a 5-on-3 power play) in its last seven games. The Griffs have successfully killed 29 power plays during the stretch (96.7 percent).
  • On the season, Canisius has killed 80.2 percent of opponent's power plays and 85.7 percent in league play.

    CONACHER NAMED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
  • In his first weekend of Atlantic Hockey play, freshman Cory Conacher helped lead the Griffs to three points against Bentley and was named the league's Rookie of the Week.
  • Conacher posted a goal and an assist in the Griffs' 4-1 victory over Bentley. His goal was the first of his collegiate career.
  • The rookie also shined in his debut with the Griffs, posting an assist on each of the Griffs first two goals against rival Niagara.
  • Conacher is just the third player since the 1999-2000 season to record multiple points in his debut. Michael Cohen (2003) and Carl Hudson (2006) also accomplished the feat. He is also the first player since Cohen to record four points in his first three collegiate games.
  • At just 18 year old, Conacher is the youngest player competing at the Division I level this season. Teammate Vincent Scarsella is the fourth-youngest player during the 2007-08 campaign (18 years and three months old).
  • Conacher has posted one goal and three assists in three game this season. He missed the first 17 games of the season due to injury.

    CANISIUS - CONNECTICUT SERIES
  • The Griffs and Huskies have met 35 previous times on the ice with Canisius holding a 17-14-4 advantage in the series.
  • Canisius has won seven of the last nine games in the series but had its four-game winning streak against Connecticut snapped the last time the two schools met, 4-3.
  • The Griffs have recorded at least one point in nine of the last 11 games at home versus the Huskies.
  • Chris Forsman tied a school record for points in a game by a Canisius defensemen in last year's 4-3 victory against the Huskies. Forsman posted a goal and three assists.

    ABOUT THE HUSKIES
  • The Huskies enter the weekend losers of their last three games and with an overall record of 5-12-1.
  • Connecticut's last win was its last league game against Army (on Dec. 29) and the Huskies are 4-7-1 in Atlantic Hockey play.
  • The Huskies have struggled on both offense and defense this season. The team is averaging 1.89 goals per game, the fourth-worst mark in the country, while giving up 3.78 goals per game, the second-worst average.
  • Sean Erickson leads the Huskies with 11 points on the season (3g, 8a). Michael Coppola ranks second with 10 points (5g, 5a), while Andrew Olson (6g, 3a) and Chris Ochoa (5g, 4a) have both added nine points.
  • Beau Erickson has seen a majority of time in goal, posting a goals against average of 3.20 and a save percentage of .905.
