”It's nice to celebrate our first significant win of the season. Tonight, we had a great team effort,” Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. “Our challenge now is to carry this momentum into our first conference weekend.”

Buffalo took a 6-3 lead in game one, and the Griffs tied it at 8-8. Then the Griffs tallied seven consecutive points on Lettow's serve to gain control of the game. In game two, Buffalo went up 9-1 and held a 16-11 lead before Canisius went on an 8-2 run to go ahead 19-17. The teams stayed close throughout the rest of the game, but Canisius won four of the last five points to go up two games.

Claudia Neba led all players with 10 kills while Kelsey Lueders had seven kills on 14 attempts for Buffalo (1-12).

Canisius opens MAAC action this weekend with two home matches. The Griffs start their conference schedule on Saturday, when they host Rider at 2 p.m.
