Cabello, Donato, Mahoney Play in NYCBL All-Star Game

Three Canisius College baseball players recently participated in the 2007 New York Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game, held July 6 at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam, N.Y. Alec Cabello (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) played for the Western Division while Adam Donato (Jamestown, N.Y.) and Kevin Mahoney (Miller Place, N.Y.) represented the Eastern Division. Canisius is the only school to have three players participate in the game.

In the game, won 7-3 by the Eastern squad, Cabello (right) started at second base and earned a base hit in his only at-bat. Mahoney came in as a replacement at third base and Donato came in as a substitute in left field, but the duo combined to go 0-for-3 in the game.
Cabello is a member of the Niagara Power and is hitting .326 with a team-high 35 runs scored and 10 steals in 36 games this summer. Donato, playing for the Bennington Bombers, is hitting .250 while Mahoney, a member of the GF Golden Eagles, has a .321 batting average with a team-high 34 RBIs and four home runs. Mahoney is currently leading the NYCBL in RBI and is tied for the league lead in HRs while Cabello is leading the league in runs scored.

The Golden Griffin baseball team finished fourth in the MAAC during the 2007 season and earned its first berth in the MAAC Tournament since 1994.
