The Canisius College baseball team had the game-tying run on third base with two outs but could not plate the equalizer as the Golden Griffins fell to Tennessee Tech 8-7 Friday afternoon at Bush Stadium in Cookeville, Tenn., in non-conference action. The loss drops Canisius to 0-7 on the year.
The Griffs trailed 8-5 going into the top of the ninth, but scored a run to cut the Golden Eagles' lead to 8-6 after
Kevin Reimer came across the plate on an RBI-single by teammate
Connor Burke. Burke came around to score moments later following a
Kevin Mahoney RBI-triple down the rightfield line. However, Mahoney (right) ended up stranded at third as Tennessee Tech reliever Matt Kearny closed out the game by inducing a flyball to center.
Mahoney finished the day going 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and a triple, while teammate
Ian Choy had a 3-for-4 day at the plate.
Alex MacKenzie took the loss on the hill for the Blue and Gold after he allowed six runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings of work.
The Griffs will return to action Saturday, March 3, with a doubleheader at Tennessee Tech. The first game is set to start at 1 p.m.
