Box Score

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- No. 22 Notre Dame had five players reach double figures and forced 29 turnovers en route to defeating the Cansius College women's basketball team 93-46 on Tuesday night from the Joyce Center.

Laura Buetow and Amanda Cavo each had 10 points to lead Canisius (3-2) in scoring. JJ Williams had a team-high seven rebounds for the Griffs.

Ashley Barlow led all scorers with 18 points and had a game-high six assists and four steals while Charel Allen had 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting for the Irish (5-1).

The Irish scored the opening eight points of the game before the Griffs responded with an 8-0 run of their own and eventually took an 11-10 advantage. With the Irish ahead 17-13, Notre Dame's press started to affect Canisius as the Irish went on an 18-2 run to increase its lead to 35-15. After consecutive 3-pointers by Micayla Drysdale and Cavo, Notre Dame scored 11 of the last 12 points of the half to go up 49-22 at the break.

The Griffs also became affected by foul trouble in the first half as Brittan? Russell picked up her third foul with 9:32 remaining and Drysdale getting two fouls in the last minute of the half to finish the opening 20 minutes with four.

The teams played a more even second half before the Irish extended their lead late with a 20-3 run that took a 71-41 lead and pushed it to 91-44.

“We had a tough time with their press, with their length and athleticism. The pressure put us back on our heels a little bit,” Canisius coach Terry Zeh said. “When we relaxed, we found some success.

"Notre Dame is a very good team, and they showed that tonight."

Canisius returns to the road this weekend when the Golden Griffins play at Wright State Saturday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
