Biography
2006-07: Played in all 29 games in her junior season. Averaged 2.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. Ranked second in the MAAC in blocks per game average. Scored a season-high 13 points in the Griffs' win at Boston University Nov. 26. Was credited with a season-high 13 rebounds, with seven off the offensive glass, in the team's road victory at Rider Jan. 6. Had 10 boards in a loss at Colgate Nov. 14, and in a Canisius win at Loyola Feb. 23. Was credited with 46 blocked shots, which ranks sixth in school history for blocks in a single season. Moved into fifth place all-time in career blocks with her five-block effort against Niagara Feb. 25. Became the first Canisius player since 1986-87 to record five blocks in three different games in one season (vs. Idaho Dec. 29, at Loyola Feb. 23, and against Niagara Feb. 25). Closed out the season ranked 75th in the nation in blocks per game. Dished out a career-best five assists in the Blue and Gold's win at Rider Jan. 6. Shot 28.6 percent from the floor (30-for-105) and 58.1 percent (25-for-43) from the free-throw line. Averaged 15.8 minutes per game for Canisius off the bench. Saw 20-plus minutes of play in nine games, highlighted by 28 minutes of game action at Boston University and at Syracuse Dec. 22. Was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team for the second-straight year.
2005-06: Played in all 29 games, making eight starts at center. Made her first start for Canisius at Buffalo in the season opener. Averaged 6.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in her first season as a player at Canisius. Scored a career-high 18 points after going 7-for-10 from the field in the team's road win at Manhattan Jan. 14. Pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds at home versus Syracuse Dec. 4. Had her first career double-double against Syracuse with 14 points and 17 boards against the Orange. Scored double figures in seven different games. Led the team with 32 blocked shots, which ranked sixth in the MAAC and tied her for sixth-best in school history for blocks in a single season. Had a career-high four blocks at home against Syracuse. Her 1.1 blocks per game average ties her for fifth all-time in school history. Shot 39.8 percent (66-for-166) from the field, the sixth-best shooting percentage on the 2005-06 team. Was credited with a career-high 21 field goal attempts against Syracuse. Shot 69.6 percent from the free-throw line. Went a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe at home against Loyola Feb. 5. Averaged 16.8 minutes of playing time per game. Named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
Before Canisius: Played in 29 games and made five starts as a freshman for the University of Denver Pioneers. Averaged 3.5 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 46.7 percent from the field. Collected six blocks and eight steals. Was named "Miss Show Me State" (state basketball player of the year in Missouri) after her senior season at Kickapoo High School. Was a member of the 2001 and 2003 state championship teams at Kickapoo. Received all-state, all-conference, and all-district honors. Was nominated for the Gatorade Player of the Year award and the McDonald's High School All-American Game as well. Also took part in track and field in high school.
Personal: The daughter of Lyle and Luann Granzow, Laura is an accounting major at Canisius. Married former Canisius ice hockey player Max Buetow in May 2007. Has three sisters (Kimberly, Joanna and Christina) and one brother, Michael.
