Sophomore Kevin O'Donnell (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and junior Kaeli Abdo (Springville, N.Y.) each won events Saturday in a meet at Binghamton. Overall, the women's team lost 219-70 to the host Bearcats and 192-71 to Vermont while the Canisius men's team lost 183-84 to Binghamton.
"We swam well against two very competitive teams," Canisius coach Laura Trzybinski said. "Binghamton and Vermont are bigger schools and provided better competition. I'm looking forward to our team continuing to improve as the season progresses."
O'Donnell won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.85, beating the six-swimmer field. Patrick Mergler and Adam Salemi took third and fourth in the event for the Griffs. O'Donnell also won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.10.
Abdo won both the 1 and 3-meter diving events. She took the 1-meter event with a total of 217.45 points while she won the 3-meter with a total of 226.15 points. Abdo has won all four diving events on the season.
Canisius returns to the pool in two weeks at Niagara. Both the men and women will face the host Purple Eagles as well as Saint Peter's while the women's team will also take on Manhattan.
