McRae and Incoming Freshmen Take Gold at Canada Games

Canisius College baseball coach Mike McRae (right) and incoming freshmen Branson Joseph, Alex MacKenzie and Mark Sikorski lead Team Ontario to a 6-0 record and the gold medal at the Canada Summer Games last weekend.

Joseph, an outfielder, went 2-for-4 with a run and the game-winning RBI as Team Ontario defeated British Columbia 5-1 in the championship game. Joseph played in all six games and went 6-for-21 from the plate with seven runs and four RBIs.
MacKenzie, a left-handed pitcher, picked up a 5-4 victory over Manitoba in his only appearance of the games. He threw five innings, allowing four hits and three runs.

Joseph is also currently on the Canadian Junior National Team summer training roster and is part of a pool of players available to compete for Team Canada at the World Games in Mexico Sept. 2-11. The final selections for that squad will be made following a week of exhibition games Aug. 24-30 in Atlanta, Ga.
