Cross County Competes in National Catholic Championships

Both the men's and women's cross country teams competed in the 2004 National Catholic Championships held in South Bend, Ind., at the University of Notre Dame Friday evening. The men's team placed 23 out of 30 schools, while the women's team finished 26 out of 31 teams.

The men's team finished the event with 663 team points. Notre Dame took home top honors as a team, posting 19 points. Freshman Christian Volk was the Griffs' top finisher, coming in 72nd place with a time of 27:38.

Notre Dame took top honors on the women's side as well, posting 28 team points overall. Canisius registered 696 total points with senior Aileen Hoak placing 30th overall to register as Canisius' top female runner. Hoak ran the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:22. Freshman Chelsea Fitzgerald placed 148th overall with her time of 21:44.

Both programs will return to action at the Orange Classic in Syracuse, N.Y., Sept. 25.
