Swimming Breaks Three School Records at MAAC Championships

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Canisius College women's swimming and diving team continued to shatter the Canisius record books at the 2004 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, breaking three school records and moving into eighth place out of 10 teams during day two of the season-ending championships. The men's team remains in eighth place out of eight teams.

Junior Megan O'Connor (Lakewood, N.Y.) continued her record-breaking weekend by besting the school mark in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:04. She broke her own record of 11:27.39 set in 2002. O'Connor was also a member of the two relays that broke school marks in the 200-medley relay and the 800-free relay. O'Connor, along with Melissa Trometer (Buffalo, N.Y.), Jen Kentera (Brookfield, Conn.) and Kellie Guth (Andover, N.J.) swam a time of 1:57.44 in the 200-medley relay, breaking the old record of 1:59.15 set in 2001.

O'Connor and Guth joined Kasey Nichols (Hemlock, N.Y.) and Jennifer Maddaluno (Acton, Mass.) in breaking the 800-free relay mark of 8:30.60 from 1994 with a new record time of 8:25.80.

The championships, held at Loyola College, end tomorrow.
