The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams displayed an improved performance Friday night against Buffalo State, but unfortunately neither team was able to pull out its first win of the season.
The men's team lost to Buffalo State by a final score of 147-60. Sophomore Jason Zilbauer had Canisius' best male performance, as the West Seneca, N.Y., native won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.35.
The women's team faired somewhat better but ultimately fell to Buffalo State 116.50-86.50. Seniors Megan O'Connor and Melissa Trometer each took home two first place finishes. Individually, O'Connor won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:36.07, while Trometer finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.06. The pair also combined to win the 400 medley relay with juniors Laura Fowler and Sarah Smith, completing the relay in a time of 4:30.31. Katie Scanlon brought home Canisius' other first-place result, winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:09.73.
Both the men's and women's team are in action Saturday, as they face Sacred Heart and Niagara at Niagara. Meet time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
