Scanlon Named Offensive Player of the Week

Canisius College senior Becky Scanlon (Painted Post, N.Y.) has been named the Offensive Player of the Week by the MAAC Lacrosse League this week. Scanlon is currently ranked third in the in the conference in points with 15, and is tied for third with four other players in the league with nine goals each. Twice this season Scanlon has picked up six points in a game as the Golden Griffins have gotten off to the best start in program history.

The senior attack scored a school record five goals and picked up an assists in the Blue and Gold's 26-1 win over Binghamton in the season opener March 16. Scanlon was credited with six points in the team's last outing, a 10-5 win over Ohio Wesleyan. Scanlon scored two goals and dished out a career best four assists in the win March 23.

Scanlon is currently ranked second in the Canisius' record books in goals scored with 50 tallies. She needs eight more goals to pass the school's all-time leading goal scorer, Laura Lukowski.

With a 3-1 record in 2002, the Canisius College women's lacrosse team has tied the school record for most wins in a season with three. Last season, the Blue and Gold picked up three wins in a 3-12 campaign. Dating back to last year, the Griffs have won five of their last six games.

Canisius will return to action Saturday, March 30, with a game at Quinnipiac. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
