Sacred Heart sophomore Addy Franz was credited with 32 assists, 10 digs and three service aces to help lead the visiting Pioneers to a 3-0 sweep of Canisius in Metro Conference volleyball action Friday night at the Koessler Athletic Center.
Sacred Heart improved to 8-5 overall and 1-0 in league play by winning the match by set scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-23. The Golden Griffins fell to 1-10 overall and 0-1 in Metro play with the loss.
Canisius led the first set 9-8 before Sacred Heart went on an 11-0 run to take a 19-9 advantage. In that scoring surge, Franz collected all three of her aces to help fuel the effort for the Pioneers. Sacred Heart's Lauren Hubert had five of the Pioneers' 14 kills in the opening set to help the visiting team take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, Sacred Heart led 24-14 before Canisius used a 7-0 run of its own to trim the Pioneers' cushion to 24-21. In that push by the Griffs, sophomore Madi Cowan had two kills, and Canisius took advantage of five Sacred Heart attack errors. Hubert put down one of her eight kills on the night to end the second set and send the match into intermission with Sacred Heart up 2-0.
A pair of service aces midway through the third set by Canisius redshirt-junior Julia Lenik evened the frame at 18-18, but Sacred Heart pushed through, scoring seven of the night's fianl 13 points to seal the victory. Sacred Heart's Renata Montini and Abbie Hagedorn each had 11 kills in the win for the Pioneers.
Canisius junior Emma Isroff had a team-high nine kills to go with four digs, an assist and a block assists in the loss for the Blue and Gold, while Cowan finished the night with six kills and eight digs.Â

• Friday's match up marked the fifth meeting between these two programs.
• Senior libero Brenda Reynaga was credited with a match-high 23 digs in the loss for the Griffs.
•Isroff now leads the team with 97 kills on the year.
• Redshirt-freshman McKenna Corcoran led Canisius with a solo block and three block assists.
UP NEXT
Canisius will close out its four match homestand on Saturday when the team hosts Fairfield. The match will start at 2 p.m., and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
