Volleyball Swept at Cross-Town Rival Buffalo

The Buffalo Bulls hit .365 as a team and recorded 13 total team blocks en route to a 3-0 victory over Canisius in the first match of the Canisius/UB Tournament at Broadview Arena on Wednesday night.
 
Buffalo improved to 3-1 on the season by taking the match with set scores of 13-25, 21-25, 20-25. The Golden Griffins fell to 0-4 on the year.
 
The Bulls scored the first set victory of the night thanks in to a 13-4 scoring run midway through the opening frame. UB's Maneola Forlin had three of her four kills on the night in that scoring surge for the home team.
 
In the second set, a kill by Canisius freshman Emily Helmers put the Griffs up 13-11 midway through the frame, however, UB answered with the contest's next seven points to take an 18-13 advantage. Later in the second set, Canisius used a 7-1 scoring run of its own, fueled by three kills from junior Emma Isroff, to make the score 23-21 in favor of Buffalo. The Bulls went on to score the final two points in the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
A kill by Helmers, one of her seven on the night, in the later stages of the third set knotted the contest at 19-19, but Buffalo answered by scoring six of the third set's final seven points en route to the 3-0 victory. The final kill of the night was put down by Buffalo's Hailey Campagna, who led all players with 12 kills on 18 swings.
 
For Canisius, redshirt-junior Julia Lenik recorded a team-high 11 kills, while Isroff was credited with nine. Sophomore Anna Rich had 17 assists, while freshman setter Kenslie Warmbrodt added 16 assists.
 
GAME NOTES
• Wednesday's match was the 70th all-time meeting between Canisius and Buffalo, in a series that dates back to 1975.
• Wednesday also marked the Griffs' first road contest at UB since 2022.
• Lenik's 11 kills are a season high.
• Rich has now recorded 15-or more assists in two of the team's four contests this season.
 
UP NEXT
Canisius will open the home portion of its 2026 schedule on Friday when the team plays host to Dartmouth. Game time at the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 6 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast on the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network.
