Valparaiso's Jordyn Gove recorded a match-high 20 kills and added nine digs to help lead the visiting Beacons to a 3-1 win over Canisius in the final match of the WNY Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Valpo won the match by set scores of 25-14, 13-25, 25-17, 25-13.
Gove's 20 kills came on 41 swings and she added two block assists as Valpo improved to 8-4 on the season with the victory. Canisius fell to 1-9 on the year with the loss.
For the Golden Griffins, sophomore Alli Farmer was good for a team-high 11 kills to go with a pair of service aces and two digs. Senior libero Brenda Reynaga had a match-high 19 digs. Her third dig of the day allowed her to reach the 1,000 career digs milestone. Junior Emma Isroff had nine kills and six digs, while junior Julia Lenik chipped in five kills, six digs and five block assists.

The first set saw Valparaiso hit an impressive .583 as a team with 14 team kills on 24 swings. Gove had six of her 20 kills on the day in the contest's first frame. In the second set, Canisius rallied back by posting a team attack percentage of .714. Farmer and Isroff led the Blue and Gold's offensive charge in the second frame, as both players recorded five kills for the Griff. Canisius also held Valpo to a .154 team attack percentage, as the Griffs registered eight block assists, highlighted by Lenik and three by freshman Emily Helmers.
A 9-2 run by Valpo midway through the third set put the Beacons up 14-8. In that surge, Gove and teammate Jessica Pickett each had a pair of kills, while Rylee Bumgardner and Maggie Uhwat each recorded a pair of service aces.Â
Valparaiso closed out the afternoon by scoring the first seven points of the fourth set en route to the 25-13 set victory. Gove put down five kills in the final frame and the Beacons hit .235 to close out the day. Â
GAME NOTES
• Saturday marked the first meeting between Canisius and Valparaiso in volleyball.
• Reynaga entered Saturday's match with 998 career digs, of which, 694 have come during her time as a member of the Canisius program.
• Saturday marks the second time this season where Farmer has posted 10-or more kills in a match.
• Freshman setter Kenslie Warmbrodt recorded a team-high 22 assists for the Griffs, which is her fifth time with 20-or assists this season.
• Helmers matched her season-high with five block assists.

Canisius will open Metro Conference play on Sept. 25, when the Golden Griffins play host to Sacred Heart at the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time is set for 6 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
