Canisius University Athletics

Canisius used a balanced offensive attack to post a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-20) sweep of in-state rival Le Moyne in collegiate volleyball action Friday at the WNY Invitational at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo. 

Junior Emma Isroff and sophomore Alli Farmer tallied nine kills each to pace a Golden Griffins (1-8) attack that saw six players collect six-or-more kills and combined to hit .230 for the match. Senior Brenda Reynaga tallied a team-best 18 digs while redshirt junior Julia Lenik notched 15 digs to go along with eight kills. Freshman Kenslie Warmbrodt dished out 23 assists and sophomore Anna Rich pitched in 15. 

Jamin Rodriguez notched seven kills to lead the Dolphins (0-10). Haley Buescher posted a match-high 20 digs and Katie Barbour added 13 assists. 

Canisius never trailed during the first set, notching five of the first seven points of the match on its way to take control on its way to a 25-18 opening-frame victory. The set was highlighted by five service aces from four different players, including a pair of aces from Rich. 

The Griffs stormed ahead early in the second set, holding a 16-7 lead midway through the frame. Le Moyne attempted to get back into the set moments later, rattling off six unanswered points to spark a 15-7 stretch to make it a one-point contest, 23-22. Canisius would emerge victorious, tallying two of the final three points of the frame on kills from Farmer and Emily Helmers to secure a 25-23 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match. 

Canisius completed the sweep with a 25-20 victory in the third set that saw it hit .325 as a team. Senior Hannah Kos led the team in kills during the final frame with five, followed by four from Lenik, who also recorded five digs in the team's final set victory. 
 

GAME NOTES
• Canisius notched its sixth win against Le Moyne, stretching the overall series record to 6-3, in a series that dates back to the 1984 season.
• The Griffs posted a season-high 48 kills during Friday's match. 
• Warmbrodt surpassed the 20-assist plateau for the fourth time this season with her 23-assist effort on Friday. 
• Four Griffs recorded two service aces as Canisius recorded a total of eight service aces on the night.
