Hanson Named MAAC Face-Off Midfielder of the Week

Canisius senior Micah Hanson was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Face-Off Midfielder of the Week, league officials announced on Friday.

A native of Black Earth, Wis., Hanson was recognized for the third time this season after a dominant performance in the Golden Griffins' regular-season finale against Marist on Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Hanson established a program record with 24 face-off wins as he finished the contest against the Red Foxes with a 24-of-31 performance at the "X". He won 14-of-18 draws contested in the first half and was 10-of-13 on restarts in the second half, highlighted by a perfect 5-for-5 effort in the fourth quarter.

The 24 face-off wins by Hanson matched Sacred Heart's Ryan Grove for the most by a player in the MAAC this season. The total also represented the second-highest total in a Division I game this season, trailing only Delaware's Scott Conte, who recorded 26 face-wins versus St. Bonaventure on April 18.

Hanson also scooped up a season-high 14 ground balls in the matchup, marking the third time this season that he recorded double-digit ground balls in a game. He also dished out an assist, picking a helper on graduate TJ Buono's second goal of the game in the first quarter.
