Manchester, Zwirecki Selected as Student-Athletes of the Month for February

Canisius junior Olivia Manchester and redshirt-junior Thomas Zwirecki have been chosen as the Milk for Life Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month for February, the athletic department announced today.

A junior pitcher on the softball team, Manchester has started the 2026 campaign 2-0 in the circle with a save and a 1.81 ERA in 19.1 innings of work to help the Golden Griffins to a 4-4 start through eight games..

Manchester had a breakout season in 2025 after she went 17-6 with a 3.00 ERA and 17 complete games. She finished the 2025 campaign ranked third in the MAAC with her 17 victories, which stands as the most wins in the circle for a Canisius pitcher not named Megan Giese since former Griff Juliette Bowers had 20 victories in 2008.

In the classroom, Manchester holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a biochemistry major.

A native of East Amherst, N.Y., Zwirecki has posted a strong start to the season with his team-leading .356 batting average along with six RBI and 18 total bases. Zwirecki is coming off a 2025 campaign where the catcher claimed a .322 batting average to go along with 32 runs batted in and 72 total bases.

In the classroom, Zwirecki holds a 3.84 grade point average as a sport and exercise healthcare major.

The fall 2025 semester saw Canisius student-athletes post a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, the 10 straight semester with a departmental cumulative GPA of 3.40 or greater.

In addition, all 21 of the Golden Griffins' varsity intercollegiate athletic programs fashioned a team cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher, with 18 squads exceeding a 3.30 cumulative GPA.

The fall semester also featured a total of 69 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Those 69 student-athletes highlighted a group of 374 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, representing 85% of the University's total student-athlete population.
