Acrobatics and Tumbling Win Streak Snapped by No. 3 Quinnipiac

The Canisius acrobatics and tumbling team dropped a 263.435–208.735 decision to No. 3 Quinnipiac Sunday inside the Koessler Athletic Center.

The Bobcats bested the Golden Griffins in every event to post their third victory of the season with a 3-1 record. Canisius suffered its first loss in the inaugural season of the program as it fell to 3-1.


Canisius opened the meet in the compulsory event, posting a score of 29.05. The Blue and Gold turned in a 9.10 in the pyramid and a 9.30 in the toss heats to begin the competition.


In the acro event, the Griffs recorded a total score of 19.90. Their top mark came in the five-element heat, where Canisius earned a 8.100 score only to see Quinnipiac tally 8.450-or-more points in all three heats en route to outscore Canisius, 27.40-19.90, in the event.


Canisius delivered a 26.20 result in the pyramid event where the Griffs scored at least an 8.25 in all three heats, highlighted by a 9.20 in the inversion heat and an 8.75 in the synchronized heat.


The Griffs followed with a 24.10 in the toss event. Canisius opened the event with its highest toss score of the day, earning an 8.45 in the 450-salto heat.


In the tumbling event, Canisius recorded a total of 34.50. The trio pass produced the team's top score in the event with a 7.35, while the aerial and open passes each added scores of 7.525. The Bobcats tallied a 54.575 result through six events in the category to extend the lead to 177.325-133.75 heading into the team event portion.


Canisius closed the meet with a 68.71 in the team event to finish with a final total of 202.460, but Quinnipiac posted a team event score of 86.11 to secure the victory.

Canisius takes part in its first ever tri-meet with Buffalo State and Mary Hardin Baylor this Friday. The meet, which will be hosted by Buffalo State, is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Sports Arena in Buffalo, N.Y.
