Acrobatics and Tumbling Faces Wheeling Sunday

The acrobatics and tumbling program continues its inaugural season when Canisius travels to take on Wheeling Sunday.

Historic Opening Meet
Canisius scored a 231.100-195.195 victory over Buffalo State last Sunday to notch their first ever victory in program history. Canisius scored a 34.7-25.6 advantage in the compulsory portion which saw the home team post two scores of 9.2-or-higher. The Griffs' 9.35 mark in the toss heat was the highest score that either side recorded all meet. The Blue and Gold concluded the meet with a 73.950 score in the team event.

Head Coach Mel Goulding
Mel Goudling was officially introduced as the first head coach of the Canisius acrobatics and tumbling program on Dec. 24, 2024. Goulding joins the Canisius coaching staff after serving as an assistant coach for two years at Buffalo State. In her time at Buffalo State, she played an integral role in building the Bengal program from the ground up and was part of the staff when the Buffalo State acrobatics and tumbling team posted its first program victory. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, she assisted with the program's community involvement and fundraising efforts.

Big Things Coming for Acrobatics and Tumbling
This past January, the NCAA approved acrobatics and tumbling as an NCAA Championship sport, beginning in 2027. Since its formation in 2010 with six schools, the sport has grown to 52 programs across the country. Canisius is one of three programs that is starting its first year of competition.
