Acrobatics and Tumbling Scores First Win in Program History

The Canisius acrobatics and tumbling program opened up its first season of competition with a 231.100-195.195 victory over Buffalo State Sunday at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins (1-0) defeated the Bengals (0-1) by more than 35 points as it bested Buffalo State in every category.

Canisius scored a 34.7-25.6 advantage in the compulsory portion which saw the home team post two scores of 9.2-or-higher. The Griffs' 9.35 mark in the toss heat was the highest score that either side recorded all meet. 

The next two categories also went Canisius' way by narrow margins, gutting out a 25.15-24.15 advantage in the acro portion before tallying a 25.5-25.1 victory in the pyramid section.

The toss event saw the Blue and Gold tally three straight scores of over eight points. Canisius then topped Buffalo State once more in the tumbling category with a 46.6-34.025 margin.

After Buffalo State recorded a 62.720 score in the team event, Canisius responded with a 73.950 to secure its first victory in program history.

Canisius continues its inaugural season of competition at Wheeling on March 1. The meet is scheduled for noon at the McDonough Center in Wheeling, W.Va.
