Goffredo, Lisson Recognized with AHA Weekly Honors

Canisius senior defenseman Jimmy Goffredo and freshman goaltender Jack Lisson were both recognized on Tuesday as Atlantic Hockey America announced its weekly award winners.

A native of Mount Laurel, N.J., Goffredo was named the AHA Defensive Player of the Week while Lisson, a product of Oakville, Ontario, took home AHA Goaltender of the Week honors after the duo helped the Golden Griffins earn a win and a tie in their season-opening series against Ferris State last weekend at LECOM Harborcenter.

Goffredo tallied a team-best four points on two goals and two assists in the matchup with the Bulldogs, recording a goal and an assist in each game. He also finished with a team-best five blocked shots during the non-conference series.

In the season opener, Goffredo scored the eventual game-winning goal with a power-play tally in the first before adding an assist on fellow senior Ethan Wolthers breakaway goal in the second to help pace Canisius to a 4-0 victory. Game two of the series saw him score Canisius' second goal of the game and assist on the Griffs' third marker in a 5-5 tie.

Lisson, meanwhile, had a truly memorable opening weekend as he became the first goaltender in the Division I era of the program to record a shutout in his Canisius debut as he stopped all 23 shots he faced in the 4-0 victory during the series opener.

He followed that effort with a relief performance in the finale that saw him stop all eight shots he faced during the third period and overtime before turning aside two-of-three shootout attempts from the Bulldogs to earn the shootout victory.

Canisius (1-0-1) returns to action this weekend as it opens a 10-game road swing Oct. 9-10 with a trip to LIU for a pair of games.

Start times for both contests of the non-conference series between the Griffs and Sharks is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
