Simard Named Preseason All-MAAC, Men’s Lacrosse Tabbed Sixth

Senior defenseman Alexis Simard was named a Preseason All-MAAC selection while Canisius was tabbed sixth in the coaches' poll as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced the results of its preseason voting on Monday.
 
One of just three unanimous selections to the Preseason All-MAAC squad, Simard was recognized following a 2025 campaign that saw him earn All-MAAC Second Team distinction for the first time in his career.
 
The native of Terrebonne, Quebec appeared in 12 games for the Golden Griffins last season, making 10 starts. He finished the season with 24 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers while also contributing on the offensive end by pitching in three goals.
 
Simard enjoyed one of his best performances in a Canisius uniform in a 10-9 victory over Merrimack, finishing with career highs of six ground balls and four caused turnovers in the one-goal triumph against the Warriors.
 
In a vote of the league's nine head coaches, Canisius received a total of 33 points to claim the sixth spot. Defending MAAC Tournament Champion Siena garnered five first-place votes and 74 total points to take the top spot while Marist was second with 72 total points (three first-place votes). Reigning regular-season champion Sacred Heart claimed the final first-place vote and 70 total points to place third, followed by Qunnipiac (52) and Mount St. Mary's (38). Merrimack (27), Manhattan (25) and Iona (14) rounded out the poll.
 
Canisius opens the 2026 season Feb. 7 with a visit to regional rival Hobart. The Griffs make their home debut Feb. 20 versus Robert Morris and open conference play March 7 with a home date against Iona.
