Men’s Lacrosse Adds Former Griff Thomson to Coaching Staff

Canisius head men's lacrosse coach Mark Miyashita announced the hiring of former Golden Griffin Ethan Thomson as an assistant coach for the 2025-26 season on Thursday.

"We are excited to welcome Ethan to the coaching staff after his career in a Canisius uniform," Miyashita said. "Ethan's passion and drive will help to mentor our younger players as they transition to the collegiate game and his journey as a student-athlete will serve him well in this capacity. I look forward to having the opportunity to continue working with Ethan in this new role as his lacrosse journey transitions from player to coach."

A native of White Hall, Md., Thomson makes the transition to the sidelines after completing a four-year career that saw him appear in 58 games for the Blue and Gold.

As a long-stick midfielder, Thomson scooped up 76 ground balls and added 19 caused turnovers. He also pitched in a goal and an assist.

"It is an absolute pleasure to be back at Canisius after I graduated only a few months ago," Thomson said. "I want to thank coach Miyashita and coach [Derek] Marks for giving me this opportunity shortly after I finished up my playing career. Making this decision was easy because of the people here at Canisius. It really is a second home to me. Go Griffs!"

A three-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree, Thomson received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Canisius in May.
