Fitzgerald's Four Goals Not Enough as Women's Lacrosse Falls at Eastern Michigan

Box Score Sophomore Maddie Fitzgerald tallied a game-high four goals on eight shots, but it was not enough as Eastern Michigan posted a 12-10 victory over Canisius in collegiate women's lacrosse action Saturday at the EMU Indoor Practice Facility in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The Eagles improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory while the Golden Griffins slipped to 1-4.

Mackenzie Blackwell and Tracy Grollman each recorded a team-high two goals each for the Eagles. Maddie Porter recorded nine saves and scooped up a team-high four ground balls while Annika Wozney posted four caused turnovers and added three ground balls.

Sophomores Ashlyn Dhandwar and Megan Previdi chipped in two goals apiece for Canisius. Sophomore Olivia Licardi turned aside seven shots while Harper Weatherdon posted a team-best three caused turnovers and redshirt junior Taylor McArthur led all players with six ground balls.

With the score tied at 4-4 at the start of the second quarter, the Eagles took control of the game, netting three unanswered goals to take a 7-4 advantage into halftime.

The Griffs mounted a comeback during the third quarter, as a pair of tallies from Previdi book-ended a four-goal spurt that lasted more than seven minutes and gave Canisius an 8-7 lead.

EMU answered back moments after Previdi's go-ahead goal, as Katheryn Wilson tied the game with her 13th goal of the season, sparking a 4-1 spurt for the Eagles that gave them an 11-9 lead with 8:51 remaining in regulation.

Junior Maggie Tifft notched her sixth goal of the season to pull the Griffs within one, but the Eagles closed the door in the final minute, as Roya Khaleeli scored with 25 seconds left to secure the two-goal victory.

GAME NOTES
• Saturday's contest served as the inaugural meeting between the two programs.
• Fitzgerald recorded her seventh career hat trick to keep an 11-game goal streak alive that dates back to April 3, 2024. Fitzgerald now leads the Griffs with 11 goals this season.
• Previdi turned in the third multi-goal game of her career with her two-goal performance on Saturday.
• Canisius has allowed double digit goals in all five games this season. The last time the Griffs allowed 10-or-more goals in five straight times was during the 2022 season.
