Women’s Lacrosse Names 2027 Captains

Canisius head women's lacrosse coach Russell Allen announced on Friday that seniors Maddie Fitzgerald, Megan Previdi, Harper Weatherdon, Lauren Matyka, and Ashlyn Dhandwar will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2027 season.

"The leadership across the board, from every class, has been excellent this year, and I couldn't be more excited to announce Lauren, Maddie, Ashlyn, Harper, and Meg as our captains. Each of them brings a unique style of leadership to our team, but most importantly, they consistently live out what it means to be a leader each day — on the field, in the classroom."

A native of Rochester, N.Y., Fitzgerald has appeared in 49 games, making 45 starts during her time at Canisius, tallying 95 goals and 12 assists for 107 points. Fitzgerald served as a team captain during the 2026 season, which saw the midfielder tally 27 goals and five assists in 17 games.

Previdi, an attacker from Montclair, N.J., has appeared in 49 games, making 44 starts in her first three seasons on Main Street. Tallying 30 goals and 96 assists for 126 points in her collegiate career, Previdi posted a career-high in 2026, eclipsing the 100-point mark with 10 goals and 49 assists for 59 points.

Weatherdon has appeared in 37 games in her career with the Griffs, starting in 33 games. The defender from Waterloo, Ontario, has amassed 46 ground balls while forcing 37 turnovers in her career in the Blue and Gold. Last season, Weatherdon tallied a career-high 22 ground balls while causing 19 turnovers.

A native of Wading River, N.Y., Matyka has appeared in 35 games as a Griff, starting in 17. During her time on Main Street, Matyka has tallied 23 goals and three assists for 26 points. The midfielder is coming off a career-high year, scoring 16 goals and two assists for 18 points while scooping up 16 ground balls.

Dhandwar, from New Westminster, British Columbia, has appeared in 38 games, starting in 29 at Canisius. The midfielder has tallied 35 goals and seven assists for 42 points as a Griff. Last season, Dhandwar tallied 19 goals and six assists while forcing nine turnovers.

"We have a driven group of individuals who have already demonstrated a strong growth mindset throughout our fall training period, particularly in the way they have come together and continued to build our team chemistry," Allen said. "Our coaching staff has extremely high expectations for this group, and we believe these leaders are the perfect people to galvanize our team, push one another, and help us reach the potential we know we have. We are incredibly excited to see what this group can accomplish together this year."
