Women's Lacrosse Collects First Win at Kennesaw State

Box Score Sophomore Maddie Fitzgerald scored four goals and dished out two assists as Canisius topped Kennesaw State, 15-12, in collegiate women's lacrosse action Sunday at Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga.

With the win, the Golden Griffins collected their first victory of the season and hold a 1-2 record overall while the loss dropped the Owls to 1-3.

Junior Maggie Tifft chipped in three goals, all in the first quarter, while junior Meg Hiltz and sophomore Ashlyn Dhandwar both tallied two goals in the victory. For Kennesaw State, Shannon Harrington recorded a game-high five goals.

Canisius jumped out to an early 5-0 lead ten minutes into the contest before Tifft completed her first-quarter hat trick to give the Griffs a 7-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

In the second, Canisius used a 4-1 run, highlighted by freshman Brooke Hippert's first collegiate goal, to increase its lead to 11-3. Both sides traded scores in the final two minutes as the Griffs took a 12-4 advantage into the locker room.

Canisius maintained a comfortable lead for a majority of the second half, holding a 15-8 advantage with eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter before Kennesaw State rattled off four straight goals to determine the three-goal final margin.

GAME NOTES
• Sunday's game served as the first meeting between the two programs. Kennesaw State joined the Division I ranks in 2023.
• Tifft's three goals in the contest marked her first career hat trick.
• The 15 goals from Canisius is the highest tally since the Griffs topped Rider on Apr. 21, 2024 which dates back to last season.
• With four goals today, Fitzgerald now leads the team in goals with six on the season.
