Porter’s October Outburst Leads to AHA Monthly Honor

Canisius senior Grant Porter was named the Atlantic Hockey America Forward of the Month for October, league officials announced on Monday.

A native of Weston, Mass., Porter led the AHA in scoring during the opening month of the regular season with 11 points on four goals and seven assists in nine games played. His 11 points were the most by a Canisius skater in the month of October since formation of the AHA in 2003-04 and the most by a AHA player in the month since the 2022-23 campaign.

Porter began his senior season with points in each of the Golden Griffins first eight outings, the longest consecutive point streak of his career and the third-longest among all Division I skaters in 2025-26.

The AHA Forward of the Week for Oct. 6, Porter played a key role in Canisius opening the season with a 3-0-0 record for the first time in the Division I era of the program (since 1998-99), tallying a goal and an assist in the season-opening victory over nationally ranked Clarkson (Oct. 3). He added an empty-net tally in the 4-2 triumph over St. Lawrence (Oct. 5) to complete the North Country sweep and punctuated Canisius' season-opening winning streak with the game-winning goal in overtime of the Griffs 3-2 victory against LIU (Oct. 10).

Porter dished out a pair of helpers in the third period of Canisius' 4-2 win in the series opener at Colgate (Oct. 17). He notched a goal and an assist in the finale against the Raiders (Oct. 18) before closing out the month with an assist in the first game of the Griffs AHA series at Bentley (Oct. 24).

Canisius (5-4-1, 1-2-1 AHA) returns to action Nov. 14-15 when it travels to Scared Heart for a two-game AHA series. Game one between the Griffs and Pioneers is slated for a 7 p.m. start on Friday while Saturday's contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. puck drop.
