Hockey Returns to Win Column with Victory over Mercyhurst

Eleven different skaters registered a point as Canisius posted a 4-3 victory over Mercyhurst in Atlantic Hockey America action Friday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Seniors Hunter Andrew, Grant Porter and Oliver Tarr and sophomore Hunter Price all scored for the Golden Griffins (6-6-1, 2-4-1 AHA). Senior Chase Clark got the start in between the pipes and made 33 saves.

Brendan Lamb, Will Schumacher and Tyler DesRochers accounted for the three goals for the Lakers (0-12-0, 0-6-0 AHA).

Tarr opened the scoring just 1:25 into the contest when he tapped home a back door feed from freshman FJ Buteau for his fifth goal of the campaign.
Price doubled the Griffs advantage less than four minutes into the second when he scored on a breakaway for his first collegiate tally. Porter made it a 3-0 contest with 7:03 elapsed in the middle frame with a power-play goal, one-timing a feed from sophomore Jason Gallucci past the glove of Charles-Edward Gravel for his fifth goal of the campaign. Andrew increased the Griffs margin to 4-0 at the 12:49 mark of the second period, jamming home a feed from freshman Kyan Haldenby for his second goal of the campaign. Lamb got the Lakers on the board less than a minute after Andrew's marker with an unassisted tally when his shot deflected off Chase and into the Canisius goal after Clark made the initial save.

Schumacher made it a 4-2 contest moments after the midway point of the third, jamming home a loose puck from just off the left post to make it a two-goal contest.

DesRochers pulled the Lakers within one with less than seven minutes to play in regulation, firing a shot from the point that eluded Clark to trim the Canisius lead to 4-3.

That would be as close as the Lakers would get, however, as the Griffs held them off the board the rest of the way to secure the one-goal victory.
