Women’s Basketball Announces 2024-25 Non-Conference Schedule

Home games against Big 4 rivals Buffalo and St. Bonaventure and defending Women's Basketball Invitational champion Illinois highlight the 2024-25 Canisius women's basketball non-conference schedule, first-year head coach Tiffany Swoffard announced Friday.

In all, the Golden Griffins are set to play 10 non-league games, starting Nov. 5 when the team travels to play at Pittsburgh. The game at Pitt, the Griffs' first meeting with the Panthers since the 1993-94 season, starts a three-game road stretch to open the year as Canisius will also play non-conference contests at Penn State (Nov. 7) and at St. Francis (Pa.) (Nov. 15).

As previously announced on July 24, Canisius' 2024-25 home opener is set for Nov. 19, when the Blue and Gold play host to long-time rival St. Bonaventure at the Koessler Athletic Center. The game against the Bonnies starts the team's season-long four-game homestand, which also features home dates against cross-town rival Buffalo (Nov. 22), Binghamton (Nov. 25) and Illinois (Dec. 2). Illinois, which went 19-15 last season, is led by Canisius Sports Hall of Famer Shauna (Geronzin) Green, who set the program's all-time scoring record with 2,012 points during her four-year career which spanned from 1998-02.

After playing four straight at home, the Griffs head on the road for four road games, starting Dec. 7 at Akron. After returning to Pennsylvania to meet Duquesne on Dec. 15, Canisius opens league play on the road at MAAC newcomer Merrimack (Dec. 19) and Siena (Dec. 21). The team's final non-league game on the schedule is set for Dec. 29 when Colgate travels to Buffalo. The game between the Griffs and the Raiders will be the 42nd meeting in series history that dates back to the 1979-80 campaign.
