The Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams completed the first day of competition in the 2024 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Lawrenceville, N.J.
The Golden Griffins earned one silver and one bronze medal and had six athletes qualify for the finals in their respective events on Sunday.
Graduate student Tom Appenheimer led the way for the men, earning silver in the 10,000m race, finishing in 30:49.68. Senior Andrew Perreault earned a bronze medal in the 3000m steeplechase when he crossed the line with a time of 9:15.32. Sophomore Kyle Urban also qualified for the finals in the 1500m race with a time of 4:03.98.
On the women's side, junior Kayla Schmidt, sophomore Jacqueline Appenheimer and graduate student Olivia Moran all qualified for the finals of the 1500m race with Schmidt crossing the line in 4:48.45, Appenheimer in 4:41.93 and Moran with a 4:45.85.
Senior Maura Jordan also ran the second best time in the 400m dash with a 57.50 and qualified for the finals tomorrow. Senior Jules Jones finished the 800m race in 2:17.29 and also qualified for the finals tomorrow.
