Rowing Heads to the Nutmeg State to race in the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational

• ON THE WATER:
The Canisius rowing team heads to Shelton, Conn., to race in the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational. This is the third time that the Golden Griffins will race in the event in program history. 
 
• SPEED ON THE WATER:
Last weekend, both the Canisius 1v8 and 2v8 shells finished above Robert Morris (April 28). The 1v8 boat took first with a time of 8:47.28 while the Griffs 2v8 shell also finished above the visiting 1v8, completing the course with a time of 9:11.96 compared to 9:22.04 for Robert Morris.
 
• GRIFFS VS PIONEERS:
Last season, the Blue and Gold raced Sacred Heart in a tri-meet which also included Manhattan. The Griffs finished second against the Pioneers, with the varsity 8 boat finishing with a time of 7:52.907 while Sacred Heart won the race with a time of 7:39.668. In the second varsity 8 race, Canisius also finished in second place with a time of 8:13.816, a full 28 seconds ahead of Manhattan, who finished in third place with a time of 8:41.402. Sacred Heart would again be victorious, completing the circuit with a time of 7:54.866.
 
• THROWBACK ON THE WATER:
Canisius has raced the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational twice before, competing in the event during the program's inaugural 2011-12 season and during 2013-14 campaign. Canisius has earned three third place finishes at the event, placing third with its 1v8 and 2v8 shells in the 2012 edition of the race and third again with the 2v8 shell in 2014.

The Griffs will be back on the water on May 19 for the 2024 MAAC Rowing Championships.
