Giampa Tabbed All-AHA Second Team, Named to AHA All-Rookie Team

Canisius freshman forward Matteo Giampa was recognized as the Atlantic Hockey Association announced its all-conference and all-rookie teams on Tuesday.  
 
A native of Virgil, Ontario, Giampa was named to the All-AHA Second Team. He was also selected to the AHA All-Rookie Team.
 
Giampa is the first Canisius player to garner both All-AHA and AHA All-Rookie Team accolades in the same season. He is also the first Griffs player to be named to the AHA All-Rookie Team since Grant Meyer was honored during the 2017-18 campaign.
 
In 26 league games, Giampa was one of just seven skaters in the AHA to average more than a point per game as he paced the Griffs with 27 points on 14 goals and 13 assists. He ranked among the top 10 in the AHA in all three major offensive statistical categories during league play, placing third in goals, tied for fifth in points and tied for 10th in assists.
 
A two-time AHA Rookie of the Month honoree and the AHA Player of the Month for November, Giampa registered multiple points on 10 occasions in conference play, highlighted by a pair of three-point performances in the first two conference games of his career against Holy Cross in early November. He tallied two goals in three games and dished out multiple assists on five occasions.
 
Giampa recorded a team-high 72 shots on goal against conference competition. He finished with three-or-more shots on goal in 17 AHA contests, compared to just seven games where he had only one shot on target.
 
Finalists for the AHA major individual awards will be revealed on Thursday. The winners will be announced on March 19.
