Men’s Basketball Game at Fairfield Flexed to ESPNU

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and ESPN announced Wednesday that the Canisius men's basketball game at Fairfield, scheduled for Thursday, March 7, has been flexed as part of the league's "Wild Card Game" agreement with the network. The second meeting of the season between the Golden Griffins and the Stags will be broadcast live on ESPNU, with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

The MAAC's flexible broadcast scheduling format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for that specific date to air on ESPNU to ensure the MAAC and ESPN can showcase the best league matchups as the season progresses. This will mark the first time Canisius has participated in one of the MAAC's flexed games since March 1, 2019 when the Blue and Gold closed out the home slate of the 2018-19 campaign with a victory over Siena on ESPNU.

Canisius, winners of two straight and three of its last four outings, is 11-15 overall and 6-10 in MAAC play after beating Niagara at home on Feb. 23 by the final score of 69-59. Fairfield, which sits atop the MAAC standings as of Feb. 28, is 18-10 overall and 12-5 in conference games.

The Griffs will close out the home portion of their 2023-24 season this weekend with a pair of games at the Koessler Athletic Center, starting Friday, when the team plays host to Mount St. Mary's. Game time set for 7 p.m. Canisius' final home game of the season is scheduled for Sunday when Rider travels to Buffalo to meet the Griffs on Senior Day. Tip-off for that contest is 1 p.m.
