Giampa Named to Tim Taylor Watchlist; Tabbed AHA Rookie of the Month

Canisius freshman forward Matteo Giampa has been named to the watch list for the Tim Taylor Award, the Hockey Commissioners Association announced on Thursday.

Named in honor of the former long time head coach at Yale, The Tim Taylor Award is annually given to the men's NCAA Division I hockey player judged to be the most outstanding freshman. Since its inception in 2007, past winners have included Jack Eichel, Kyle Connor, Clayton Keller, Devon Levi and Adam Fantilli.

The Tim Taylor Award is voted on by the nation's Division I assistant coaches. The winner will be announced during the 2024 Men's Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn., in April.

A native of Virgil, Ontario, Giampa has excelled during his first season in the collegiate ranks, leading Canisius in both goals (16) and points (27). The winger also leads AHA freshmen in both categories and is tied for second among all Division freshman in goals and sits in ninth place in terms of total points.

Giampa, who has recorded a point on 36 percent of the Griffs goals scored this season, has tallied multiple points in nine games and finished with multiple goals in four contests. He has registered three-or-more shots on goals in 14 games this season, compared to just seven outings in which he has been limited to one shot on goal or fewer.

GIAMPA NAMED AHA ROOKIE OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY
Giampa picked up another honor on Thursday as he was tabbed the Atlantic Hockey Association's Rookie of the Month for January.

Thursday's announcement marked the second time this season that Giampa has been named the league's Rookie of the Month. He was recognized as both the Player and Rookie of the Month in Atlantic Hockey for the month of November.

In eight games played during the month of January, Giampa led Canisius in scoring with nine points on four goals and five assists. He recorded a point in six of the eight games played, highlighted by a pair of two-assist performances in vicories over Mercyhurst and then-No. 20 RIT.
