Fritz, Thrash Recgonized as Student-Athletes of the Month for December

Men's basketball sophomore forward Yuri Fritz and women's basketball sophomore guard Brooklyn Thrash have been recognized as the Canisius Student-Athletes of the Month for December, presented by Milk For Life.

A native of Tiel, Netherlands, Fritz is one of four Golden Griffins to start in all 12 games to this point in the 2023-24 season, just one year after he missed the team's final 20 contests due to a knee injury.

Fritz is averaging 6.3 points per game. His 4.6 rebounds per contest ranks second on the Canisius roster. Earlier this season, he scored a career-high 12 points in a win over Wofford, and pulled down a career best 12 rebounds in the team's win over Robert Morris.

In the classroom, Fritz holds a 3.42 grade point average as an exercise and sport science major.

Thrash, meanwhile, has started in all nine games she has appeared in at this point in the 2023-24 season.

A native of Wayne, Ohio, Trash is averaging 6.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while also averaging nearly a steal per game. Earlier this season, she scored a season-high 12 points against Youngstown State, with a season-high five rebounds and two steals.

In the classroom, Trash holds a 3.43 grade point average as a health and wellness major.

The Canisius athletic department saw 19 of its 20 varsity programs post a cumulative team grade point average of 3.30 or better during the 2023 spring semester, with 11 teams recording a team GPA of 3.40 or higher.

Eleven teams posted a team GPA of 3.40 or higher, while the school's 382 student-athletes combined to post a department grade point average of 3.41 for the term.

The 2023 spring semester also saw 61 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Those 61 student-athletes highlighted a group of 313 Canisius student-athletes to record a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.
