Kouznetsov Named Hockey Captain for 2023-24 season

Canisius hockey head coach Trevor Large announced Monday that senior forward Max Kouznetsov has been named team captain for the 2023-24 season.
 
"Max is going to be a tremendous captain for our group this season," Large said. "He is selfless, determined and focused on becoming the best leader and player he can be. Everyone who has worn the Blue and Gold would love to call 'kouzy' a teammate. He helps define what is it to be positive, competitive and team-first on a daily basis. We are all in great hands with Max as our captain."
 
A native of Voorhees, N.J., Kouznetsov has appeared in 91 games during his first three seasons with the Golden Griffins, amassing 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points.
 
Serving as an assistant captain in 2022-23, Kouznetsov was one of just three skaters to appear in all 42 games for Canisius. He tallied six goals and added 12 assists as he helped the squad claim the program's second Atlantic Hockey Association title and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
 
"I'm excited for this season and ready to embrace my role as team captain," Kouznetsov said. "Being surrounded by a great group of guys, it is truly an honor to be chosen to lead them. We are coming off an Atlantic Hockey Championship and I am ready to lead us to another one."

Canisius opens the 2023-24 regular season Oct. 13-14 with a non-conference series at Miami (Ohio). The Griffs make their home debut Nov. 3-4 when they welcome league foe Holy Cross to LECOM Harborcenter for a rematch of the 2023 AHA Tournament Championship Game.
