Hockey Announces 2023-24 Schedule

Canisius hockey head coach Trevor Large announced the 2023-24 schedule on Thursday, a 34-game slate that features 18 home games and 16 road dates.

The defending Atlantic Hockey Association Champions, the Golden Griffins are scheduled to play eight non-conference contests and 26 AHA matchups during the regular season.

Canisius opens the campaign, its seventh under the guidance of Large, with a pair of non-conference series at Miami (Ohio) (Oct. 7-8) and Michigan State (Oct. 19-20).

Conference play for the Griffs begins with a rematch of the 2023 AHA Championship as it welcomes Holy Cross (Nov. 3-4) to LECOM Harborcenter for a pair of league matchups.

Road trips to Sacred Heart (Nov. 10-11) and Army (Nov. 17-18) follow the conference-opening weekend against the Crusaders before Canisius returns home with a midweek matchup against Robert Morris (Nov. 21).

The contest against the Colonials starts a stretch that will see the Griffs play 12 of their next 13 games on home ice. A Thanksgiving Weekend series versus Air Force (Nov. 25-26) signals the close of November while a home-and-home series against long time rival Mercyhurst (Dec. 1 – away; Dec. 2 – home) awaits Canisius at the start of December.

The Griffs close out the first half of the regular season with an AHA series against AIC (Dec. 15-16) before returning to the ice after its traditional holiday break with a pair of non-league games versus RPI (Dec. 28-29).

Canisius rings in the new year with its final non-conference contests of the season, welcoming North Country rivals St. Lawrence (Jan. 5) and Clarkson (Jan. 6) to LECOM Harborcenter.

A home contest against the Lakers (Jan. 11) turns the Griffs' focus back to league play while a single road contest at RIT (Jan. 13) also looms before Canisius renews acquaintances with Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara for a home-and-home series (Jan. 19 – home; Jan. 20 – away). The Blue and Gold conclude the month of January with a trip out west to Air Force (Jan. 26-27).

February gets started with a trio of home states, beginning with a midweek matchup against the Purple Eagles (Feb. 6) and also featuring with a pair of home dates versus Bentley (Feb. 9-10).

A road trip to Moon Township, Pa., for a pair of games against the Colonials (Feb. 16-17) is next on the docket while the Griffs are scheduled to close out the regular season with a home-and-home series against the Tigers (Feb. 24 – away; Feb. 25 – home).

The 2024 Atlantic Hockey Championship will once again feature all of its teams after the league adopted an eight-team format for the 2023 tournament. As with last year's championship, all rounds of the tournament will be held at on-campus facilities.

The top five teams at the end of the regular season will receive a first-round bye, while the other six teams will square off in a trio of single-elimination contests on March 2.

The winners of the three first-round matchups will join the top-five seeds for a best-of-three quarterfinal round (March 8-10). A pair of best-of-three semifinal series will be held the following weekend (March 15-17) before a single-elimination championship game will take place at the highest-remaining seed (March. 23). The winner of that contest will receive the league's automatic berth in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

Season and single-game ticket information for the 2023-24 season will be made available to the public in the coming weeks.
