Outdoor Track Shines in UB Spring Opener Saturday

A trio of first-place finishes and a pair of school records highlighted the Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams' performance in the UB Spring Opener Saturday at the UB Track Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
For the Golden Griffin women, junior Maura Jordan won the women's 400-meter race, establishing a school record with a time of 57.60. Jordan also placed third in the women's 200-meter race, finishing with a time of 26.25.
 
Senior Olivia Moran and freshman Jacqueline Appenheimer recorded a pair of top-three finishes in the women's 3,000-meter race, with Moran winning the race in 10:00.07 and Appenheimer claiming third with a time of 10:26.21. Appenheimer's performance established a freshman program record in the event.
 
Seniors Marissa Silba and Rylee Campeau finished 1-2 in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with Silba placing first with a time of 11:58.35 and Campeau claiming second as she crossed the finish line in 12:04.75.  
 
Sophomore Taylor Heschke took third in the women's 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 4:57.99. Fellow sophomore Sarah Pawlow gave the Griffs a second top-10 finish, placing seventh with a time of 5:14.79.
 
Junior Stephanie Seyfang claimed seventh in the women's 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 17.20 seconds. Seyfang also posted a ninth-place result in the women's 200-meter race, posting a time of 28.87.
 
Junior Jules Jones claimed third in the women's 800-meter race, posting a time of 2:20.69 that was the fifth-fastest in the event in school history.  
 
Junior Katie Gawronski placed second in the women's 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:07.69.
 
For the Canisius men, the Griffs had three runners place in the top 10 in the men's 3,000-meter race as senior Tom Appenheimer took third with an outdoor-program record time of 8:20.06, graduate Michael Peppy (8:32.94) place fifth and senior Andrew Perreault (8:35.04) finished sixth.
 
Junior Ronan McDonald took home fourth place in the men's 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 4:05.79.
 
Graduate student Richard Moore placed fifth in the men's 800-meter race, crossing the finish line in 1:54.26 to claim the fifth spot on the program's career-best times list.
