Eleko Tabbed Player of the Week After Strong Start to Season

After dropping a pair of double-doubles to open the 2023-24 campaign, sophomore Sisi Eleko was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week the league office announced Monday. Eleko is the first Canisius player to be named the conference's player of the week since Vannessa Garrelts earned the honor for the week of Dec. 19, 2022.
 
The Montreal, Quebec, native finished the week averaging a double-double with 19.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game. In the Golden Griffins season opener against Buffalo, she would notch her first double-double of the week with 15 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Five days later against Saint Francis (Pa.), the Preseason All-MAAC Third Team Selection would impress again, totaling a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Eleko is the first player since Danielle Sanderlin to record back-to-back double-doubles. Sanderlin accomplished the feat with identical 20-point, 10 rebound performances against Siena (Jan. 11, 2020) and Fairfield (Jan. 16, 2020).
 
For her career, Eleko now has five double-doubles. During the 2022-23 campaign, she would accomplish the feat three times (Jan. 14 at Mount St. Mary's, Feb. 25 at Iona and March 7 vs Mount St. Mary's).
 
Canisius is back in action on Nov. 16 when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y., to face Colgate. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., with the game airing on ESPN+.
