Swimming and Diving Opens Home Schedule against SUNY Geneseo

The Canisius Swimming and Diving teams will begin their home slate on Saturday at 12 p.m., welcoming SUNY Geneseo to the Burt Flickinger Center for dual-meet action.

Last season, the Golden Griffins traveled to Geneseo, N.Y. to take on the Knights. The men's team took a close loss, 157-143, while the women were also defeated by the Knights, 170.5- 127.5.

Co-Swimmer of The Week:
Marin de Villard was recognized by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as the men's co-swimmer of the week, along with Lucas Racevicius of Rider, after this record-breaking day in the pool against the University of Rochester. Last Saturday, de Villard broke the Speegle Wilbraham Center pool record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.50, while also taking first place in the event. 

De Villard also took first prize in the the 200 free (1:43.13), 500 free (4:55.16) and took first in the 200 free relay (1:27.76) alongside Bronson Benes, Sam Vidal and Alexander Hiltbrand, finishing with 21.60 split time.

Last Time Out:
The Canisius men's swimming and diving team took a 167-120 victory over the University of Rochester last Saturday. The Golden Griffin women fell to MAAC opponent Siena, 177-111 and came up victorious against the Yellow Jackets, defeating them by a score of 173-111. 

Vidal and Benes both took home two more individual first-place finishes on top of two first place relay finishes. Vidal won both the 100 (58.82) and 200 breast (2:11.74) while Benes won both the 100 (51.85) and 200 fly (1:56.71).

Freshman Evie Leighton and junior Brenna McLaughlin continued to get off to a hot start in the water versus Siena. Leighton took first in the 200 free (1:56.47) and third in the 100 free (54.78). McLaughlin came in first in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.73, followed by SaraJo Gardner (2:11.87) in second and Jordan O'Connor (2:12.59) in third to complete the sweep for Canisius in this event.

Up Next:
Following this meet, the Griffs will continue their road schedule in Vestal, N.Y., taking on Binghamton in a dual-meet contest on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
