Women's Basketball Announces 2022-23 MAAC Schedule

Headlined by a New Year's Day showdown with Siena and conference home opener against Rider, Canisius women's basketball head coach Sahar Nusseibeh announced the team's 2022-23 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule on Thursday.

The Golden Griffins open up MAAC play at home against Rider on Dec. 17 followed by a game against Marist on Dec. 19. The team hits the road a few weeks later to take on Manhattan on Dec. 29 and then ring in the new year against Siena on Jan. 1 in Loudonville, N.Y.

Canisius and Niagara renew their decades-old rivalry for the first time on Jan. 25 at the Gallagher Center. The matchup will be the 101st meeting between the two sides with the Griffs leading the all-time series 60-40. Just a few days later on Jan. 28, Canisius will be on the road to take on defending MAAC champion Fairfield for the first time.

The month of February starts with a home game against Iona on Feb. 4, before the Griffs and Purple Eagles square off in the return fixture of the Battle of the Bridge on Feb. 15 at the Koessler Athletic Center. The Blue and Gold will close out the home portion of the league slate March 2 and March 4, with contests against MAAC newcomer Mount St. Mary's before hosting Siena on Senior Day.

The 2023 Hercules Tire MAAC Women's Basketball Championship will be held March 7-11 at the historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk in Atlantic City, N.J. The winner receives the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship tournament.
