Miyashita to Represent Canada at World Lacrosse Men’s U21 Championship

Canisius head men's lacrosse coach Mark Miyashita will once again represent his country on the international stage as he will serve as an assistant coach for Team Canada at the 2022 World Lacrosse Men's U21 Championship.

The largest junior-level world championship staged to date by World Lacrosse will feature a record 23 teams and more than 500 athletes competing in 86 games Aug. 10-20 in Limerick, Ireland.

The assignment marks the second time that Miyashita has donned the Red and White as an assistant coach. At the 2018 FIL World Championship, Miyashita worked with fellow Canisius Hall of Famer and Team Canada head coach Randy Mearns to help guide Canada to a second-place finish at the 46-team event held in Netayna, Israel.

The 23 teams in Limerick will be split into five pools – three groups of five and two groups of four. Pool A features the top ranked teams: USA, Canada, Haudenosaunee, Australia and England.

Team Canada opens the tournament on Aug. 10 with a matchup against arch rival and defending U21 champion Team USA that begins at 7 a.m. EST.

Pool play will continue through Aug. 15 and will determine seeding for the playoff brackets. The top three teams from Pools B and C and the best fourth-place finisher from those pools will join the five teams from Pool A in a 12-team championship bracket.

Bracket play begins on Aug. 16, building up to the semifinals on Aug. 18 and the medal games on Aug. 20.

During the event, 22 games will be broadcast globally via ESPN digital platforms, with the semifinal and championship match also airing in the U.S. on ESPNU.
