Men’s Lacrosse Battles in Setback to Marist

Marist closed the game on a 3-1 run to break a 12-12 tie and defeat Canisius, 15-13, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex.
 
Collin Patrick scored four goals and added an assist for the Red Foxes (9-4, 7-1 MAAC), who a share of the MAAC regular-season title with the win. Drew Andersson (3g-1a) and Steven Cain (2g-2a) tallied four points each while Jayce Konowicz finished with a pair of tallies. Richie Metzger notched 16 saves between the pipes for the visitors.
 
Graduate TJ Buono notched a season-high four goals and added an assist for the Golden Griffins (3-11, 2-6 MAAC). Sophomore Carson Christy scored twice and added three assists while freshman Justin Relosky tallied three points with two goals and an assist.
 
Senior Micah Hanson went 24-of-31 at the "X" as he established the program mark for face-off wins in a game in his final collegiate contest. He also scooped up a season-high 14 ground balls.
 
With the score tied at 12-12 at the start of the fourth quarter, Marist used tallies from Mullin and Cain to grab a 14-12 lead midway through the frame. Freshman Dane Kinney answered back for the Griffs with 5:14 to play to make it a one-goal game, but Peter Murray found the back of the net with 1:30 remaining to give the Red Foxes the two-goal win.
 
Earlier in the game, the teams exchanged tallies before a 3-1 spurt gave Marist a 5-4 edge early in the second quarter.
 
Canisius battled back with two of the next three goals to knot the score at 6-6, only to see the Red Foxes close the first half on a 4-1 run to carry a 10-7 lead into the locker room.
 
The Griffs responded once again in the third quarter, notching the first two goals of the second half to highlight a 5-2 stretch that saw them knot the score at 12-12 at the end of the frame, setting the scene for Marist's fourth-quarter surge.
 
POSTGAME COMMENTS


GAME NOTES
• Canisius outshot Marist by a 45-34 margin for the contest, highlighted by a 26-15 advantage in the second half.
• The Griffs also enjoyed a 47-24 edge in ground balls for the game, including a 26-12 margin in the first half.
• Canisius committed a season-low 12 turnovers in the contest while Marist was charged with just eight miscues.
• Hanson's 24 face-off wins broke the previous school single-game mark of 22, established by both Hanson (April 5, 2024 vs. LIU) and Mike Moran (April 15, 2023 vs. Binghamton)
• Hanson also scooped up double-digit ground balls in a game for the third time this season with his 14 ground balls.
• Buono matched his career high in goals and established a personal best for points with his four-goal, five-point effort on Wednesday.
• Christy established a career high with his five-point effort as he also matched his personal best with three assists.
• Freshman Justin Relosky tallied three-or-more points in a game for the third time this season with his three-point effort.
