Women’s Basketball Welcomes Five Additions to Roster

Canisius women's basketball head coach Sahar Nusseibeh announced the addition of five student-athletes to the roster Wednesday.

Alphonsia "SiSi" Eleko (Montreal, Quebec), Adrien LaMora (Philadelphia, N.Y.), Chloe Peloquin (Johnstown, Ohio), and Brooklyn Thrash (Wayne, Ohio), will join the Golden Griffins program as freshmen for the fall 2022 semester.

Vannessa Garrelts (Spring Grove, Ill.) will join the team as a graduate transfer after spending the first four years of her collegiate career at Miami (Ohio.)

"Our Griff family is not only growing, but we are getting better with the additions of Vannessa, Brooklyn, Alphonsia, Chloe and Adrien," Nusseibeh said. "They have already added tremendous value to our program in just a few short weeks with us during the summer season. All five are talented players, motivated competitors and terrific people. We cannot wait for those on campus and the greater Buffalo community to see for themselves in a few months."

Comments from Nussiebeh on all five players can be found below.

Alphonsia Eleko | Montreal, Quebec | New Hope Academy
"Alphonsia was the final piece to our 2022-23 roster and we are happy to have her join our Griff family. Another player who brings a high level of talent and versatility, Alphonsia has the ability to dominate in the paint and on the perimeter. Playing for one of the best high school programs in the country, Alphonsia understands what it takes to compete at a high level. She is hungry to continue to develop her game, and we are so excited for it to show on the hardwood this season and throughout her career here."

Vannessa Garrelts | Spring Grove, Ill. | Miami-Ohio
"I had the privilege of coaching Vannessa for two years at Miami (Ohio) and knew without a doubt in my mind she was the perfect fit for what we are trying to build here at Canisius. She is a floor general who thrives in the uptempo game. Her veteran experience has allowed her to come in with a high basketball IQ and strong leadership skills that she has already put to use in making us better. We are thrilled to have a player and person like Vannessa joining our Griff family."

Adrien LaMora | Philadelphia, N.Y. | Indian River
"Adrien is a young woman who knows what she wants and thankfully, she wanted to be a part of what we are building here. Adrien brings tremendous versatility and basketball savvy. Her ability to play multiple positions with her multifaceted skill set, as well as her guard-like passing game, will make her a match-up nightmare. She will be able to fill several roles on both sides of the basketball. In just a few weeks, Adrien has proved us right in being an absolute worker, tremendous teammate and a tough matchup. We're so excited to see these attributes on full display for this season and beyond."

Chloe Peloquin | Johnstown, Ohio | Newark Catholic
"Chloe showed her belief in what we are building here at Canisius almost immediately, putting her trust in our vision. Chloe will immediately add length, speed and athleticism on the basketball court. Her ability to shoot as well as drive and finish around the rim will add immediate value, not to mention her length on the defensive end. Since Chloe has arrived on campus this summer, she has been an absolute sponge and her development already shows. We are so excited to see the value Chloe adds on the court and in the locker room this season and throughout her four years at Canisius."

Brooklyn Thrash | Wayne, Ohio | Elmwood
"Brooklyn is such a positive addition to our program. She brings an extremely high level of talent and ability to our roster, along with tremendous versatility. As one of the best players to come out of Northwest Ohio, Brooklyn is someone who can step up and do whatever is needed. Beyond her pure talent and work, she has brought her competitive spirit and joy to the game. Brooklyn loves to play and it shows. I cannot wait to see her growth throughout this first season as well as throughout the rest of her career here."

Canisius is set to open the 2022 campaign on Nov. 7, when the team hosts crosstown rival Buffalo at the Koessler Athletic Center.
