For the first time in program history, the Canisius men's basketball team will open the season with four-straight home games at the Koessler Athletic Center, head coach Reggie Witherspoon announced Tuesday.

The Golden Griffins will officially open the 119th season in program history on Nov. 7, when the team hosts Youngstown State at the Koessler Athletic Center in the back-half of a college basketball doubleheader with the Canisius women's team, which opens its season against cross-town rival Buffalo. The last time the Griffs started the year with four-straight home games was the 2004-05 campaign, but one of those four games was played at KeyBank Center, where Canisius downed St. Bonaventure by the score of 67-61.

The second game in the four-game homestand to start the year features long-time rival St. Bonaventure returning to the Koessler Athletic Center for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The 170th meeting in the rivalry between the two Western New York schools will be played Nov. 12. On Nov. 16, Cleveland State comes to town to meet the Griffs, marking the Vikings' first road game at Canisius since Dec. 6, 1986. The four-game homestand closes out Nov. 18 when Canisius plays host to Fredonia.

After the Nov. 18 home date with the Blue Devils, the Griffs are scheduled to play their final five non-league games on the road, starting Nov. 22 at Cornell. The month of November wraps up with a game at cross-town rival Buffalo Nov. 27, and after a weekend of MAAC games in early December, Canisius gets back to non-league play Dec. 10 at Toledo, the first meeting between the two schools since the 1996-97 campaign. A road game at Penn State Dec. 18 and a road contest at FGCU Dec. 21 close out the non-league portion of the 2022-23 slate for the Blue and Gold. Last season, Canisius defeated FGCU 97-90 in overtime at home in the first meeting between the two programs.

Canisius will once again play 20 MAAC games with 10 games at home and 10 games on the road. The full MAAC schedule, game times, promotional schedule and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
