Hockey Reveals 2022-23 Schedule

Canisius hockey head coach Trevor Large announced the 2022-23 schedule on Tuesday, a 34-game slate that features 15 home games and 19 road contests.

The Golden Griffins are scheduled to play eight non-conference games and 26 Atlantic Hockey Association contests during the regular season.

For the second consecutive campaign, Canisius will open the season with a visit to Big Ten foe Penn State (Oct. 7-8). Last season, the teams split their season-opening series, with the Griffs taking first contest, 4-1, before the Nittany Lions responded with a 4-2 win in the finale.

A visit to Michigan and the alma mater of Coach Large is next on the docket as the Griffs make their first visit to Ferris State since the 2008-09 season (Oct. 14-15) to put the finishing touches on their season-opening road swing.

The home schedule begins with a mid-week visit from former Canisius head coach Dave Smith and RPI (Oct. 18) and continues with a two-game set against NCHC foe Miami (Ohio) (Oct. 21-22). October comes to a close with the start of AHA play in the form of a trip to Sacred Heart (Oct. 28-29)

The Griffs will spend the entire month of November within the friendly confines of LECOM Harborcenter, hosting three straight league series against Holy Cross (Nov. 4-5), defending AHA Regular Season and Tournament champion AIC (11-12) and Army (Nov. 25-26).

The first of two home-and-home series against RIT (Away - Dec. 2; Home – Dec. 3) signals the start of December's slate. Non-conference play comes to a close with a single contest at Hockey East opponent Maine (Dec. 10) while Canisius closes out the calendar year with a New Year's Eve series at Air Force (Dec. 30-31)

The Griffs ring in the New Year with a consecutive road AHA series at Army (Jan. 13-14) and Bentley (Jan. 20-21). Canisius will host "Battle of the Bridge" rival Niagara (Jan. 27-28) in their lone regular-season matchup to bring January to a close.

The second home-and-home series against RIT (Home – Feb. 3; Away – Feb. 4) awaits the Griffs at the start of February. A road trip to Mercyhurst (Feb. 10-11) and a home series against Sacred Heart (Feb. 17-18) follow while a visit to Holy Cross (Feb. 24-25) serves as the regular-season finale.

The 2023 Atlantic Hockey Tournament will be an eight-team event, with the quarterfinal (March 3-5) and semifinal (March 10-12) rounds both being best-of-three series hosted by the higher seed. The championship game will take place at home of the higher remaining seed on March 18, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
